These terms apply when you use the Built in Britain website or submit evidence through its embedded form. If you do not agree with them, do not use the form.
Who we are
Built in Britain is an independent UK research and advocacy project exploring how Student visa rules affect postgraduate founders and the UK companies they want to build. References to “Built in Britain”, “we”, “us” or “our” mean the project.

Research, not advice
The site provides research, advocacy materials, estimates and general signposting. It does not provide immigration, legal, financial or business advice, and nothing on the site should be relied on as advice for your circumstances.
Any startup resources, programmes or contacts we mention are general signposts, not recommendations or guarantees. Personalised immigration questions should be taken to a suitably regulated immigration adviser or legal professional.
Who may submit evidence
You must be at least 18 years old to submit evidence. Submitting is voluntary. You must provide information in good faith and only about experiences you are entitled to describe.
What you must not submit
Do not submit anything unlawful, defamatory, misleading, abusive or infringing, or anything that violates another person’s privacy or rights. Do not include:
- passport, visa, application or case-reference details;
- passwords, security credentials or financial information;
- another person’s personal information without a lawful reason and their knowledge;
- health information or other unnecessary sensitive personal information;
- confidential, patentable, export-controlled or commercially sensitive technology; or
- trade secrets or information covered by a duty of confidence.
The evidence form is not a confidential disclosure channel. Submitting information does not create an adviser-client, fiduciary or confidentiality relationship with Built in Britain.
Your evidence and permission to use it
You keep any intellectual-property rights you hold in your submission. While we retain it under the privacy policy, you give Built in Britain a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, review, analyse and reproduce it as needed for the project’s stated research and advocacy purposes.
Without further permission, we may use only aggregated findings, genuinely de-identified analysis and non-identifying paraphrases. We will seek separate, specific approval before publishing your identity, an identifiable account, a direct quotation or a public story about you.
If information has already been incorporated into genuinely anonymised or aggregated published findings, it may not be reasonably possible to extract or reverse that use.
Using the website
You may use the site only for lawful purposes. You must not interfere with its operation, introduce malicious code, attempt unauthorised access, scrape it in a way that disrupts the service, misrepresent an association with Built in Britain or use its content to harm another person.
Unless a source or licence says otherwise, the site’s original content and design belong to or are licensed to Built in Britain. You may link to the site and quote short extracts with fair attribution. Third-party datasets, publications, marks and other materials remain subject to their own licences and rights.
Evidence, estimates and availability
The project uses public datasets, working assumptions and contributed evidence. We aim to explain which values are observed, derived or modelled, but research may be incomplete, uncertain or out of date. You should verify information before relying on it.
We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site without notice. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, secure or free from errors.
Third-party services and links
The evidence form is hosted by Airtable, and the site links to services and information operated by other organisations. Their own terms and privacy notices may apply. A link or signpost does not mean that Built in Britain controls, endorses or guarantees the third party.
Responsibility
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Built in Britain is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the free site, reliance on its research or use of a third-party service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the project changes. The latest version and update date will appear here. Changes apply from publication and do not expand an earlier submission permission beyond the privacy policy and any consent you gave.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights you have to bring a claim elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
